Historical Georgetown

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and named after King George III of United Kingdom and Ireland, Georgetown- the capital city of Penang, is one of the oldest cities in Malaysia. Founded in 1786 by Captain Francis Light of the British East India Company, Georgetown was one of the first British settlements in South East Asia then it became a British Crown Colony in 1867.

Despite the extremely hot weather in the month of March, walking around Georgetown was totally worth it. I am in awe of the historical sites and preserved century-old buildings. Having the reputation of Malaysia's gastronomic capital, never miss to try the street food around. It is the perfect definition for the term ''where east meets west''. Exploring the small alleys was like going back to its rich past where the spice trade was rampant. I wish I had taken more photos.

An island of pristine white sand, crystal blue water and tropical rain-forest with beautiful flora and fauna. The area is also a Marine Sanctuary so when you get into the water, different types of fish will swim around you for they are very curious. If you are bored of sun bathing, you can walk around the island to see the breathtaking nature of Sapi.

World's Largest Flower

Rafflesia Arnoldii is known for bearing the largest flower in the world. Found in the rain forests of Borneo and Sumatra, the Rafflesia arnoldii grows to a diameter of around 1 meter and weighs up to 11 kilos. It is a parasite to the Tetastrigma vine. The Rafflesia arnoldii has a very strong decaying flesh-odor that sometimes it is dubbed as a ''corpse flower''. Although it doesn't have leaves, stems and roots but its still considered as a vascular plant.

I saw the Rafflesia Arnoldii in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. It was such a great experience to see the world's largest flower.

Historical Malacca

The tale of Malacca's history and glory is illustrious. As Malaysia's oldest city, it was once a powerful trading port connecting East and West bartering goods like spices, silk, etc. Even the Portuguese, Dutch and British battled on its turf for its gold and prestige.

Malacca is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site attracting thousands of tourists everyday. As a colony of three great countries, it has a wide and diverse culture. Also greatly influenced by the Middle Eastern, Chinese and the Baba Nyonya leaving them a colorful community. A wondrous place with a mixture of European and Asian architecture and cuisine.

When I saw Malacca, I was inspired by how the people preserved the left-behinds of it's previous rulers.
Taking a walk around the small town is awe-inspiring.
